NEW DELHI: In a bid to promote the co-production of films, the Union Cabinet has approved the signing of 'Audio Visual Co-Production Treaty' between India and Australia.

The Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has endorsed the signing of an 'Audio Visual Co-Production Treaty'. . Film co-production between two countries is enabling  through audiovisual co-production treaties. Such agreements are Umbrella Agreements under which private, quasi-government or governmental agencies enter into contracts to produce films together.

15 Audio Visual Co-Production Treaties have been signed between India and other nations as far. Australia has been a popular location for the filming of Indian movies. India is quickly becoming a top destination for filmmakers looking for new projects in the content world. India is a preferred destination for foreign filmmakers because to its variety of exotic locations, talent pool, and relatively lower cost of filming and post production.

The co-production treaty states that the respective contributions of the two countries' producers may range from 20% to 80% of the ultimate total cost of the co-production job.
