Police and locals got into clash over garbage-dumping issue in Aurangabad, Maharashtra on Wednesday. The locals were against the decision of the authorities to dump garbage in Padegaon-Mitmita village located on outskirts of Aurangabad.

The clash involved stone-pelting by the enraged locals which injured eight police personnel. The mob torched two garbage dumping trucks of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) during the protests. Several locals gathered to protest when garbage dumping trucks had come to dispose the garbage in the village on Wednesday morning following which police and fire brigade was rushed to the spot.

“Locals started pelting stones at the police leaving two inspectors and six constables injured,” a police official was quoted as saying.

A local MLA claimed that the police lathi-charged the locals gathered there, however, Aurangabad Commissioner of Police Yashaswi Yadav discarded the claim.

“Police used teargas to disperse the protesters and did not lathi-charge locals,” said Yadav. He added that the garbage was offloaded after protesters were brought under control.

Minister of state for home Ranjit Patil said that the government has taken cognizance and assured that appropriate steps will be taken in the matter.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured to find a solution soon about Aurangabad’s garbage management issue. He added that AMC will be provided funds to overcome the issue.
