Australia deploys drones in Ukraine and increases its sanctions against Russia

Sydney: On the anniversary of the invasion, the Australian government announced on Friday that it would send more drones to Ukraine to support that country's fight against Russia. It also announced new targeted financial sanctions against 90 Russian individuals and 40 entities.

Russian ministers in charge of the energy, resources, and industrial sectors as well as major defence contractors like Kalashnikov Concern, Tupolev, and Admiralty Shipyards are among the most recent targets.

with Ukraine." The Ukrainian Armed Forces have access to battlefield intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance thanks to (the uncrewed aerial systems).

He omitted information regarding the models, number of drones being shipped, and whether or not they would be armed.

Since Russian President Vladimir Putin authorised the invasion of Ukraine, which he refers to as a "special military operation" to purge its neighbour of extremists, a year ago, it is estimated that tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians and troops on both sides have died and millions have been forced to flee.

On the eve of the war's anniversary, Putin boasted about Russia's nuclear arsenal while the US and NATO accused China of considering arming Russia, a key ally of Beijing. China rejected the charge.

Penny Wong, the foreign minister for Australia, said she would urge China to take action to defuse the situation.

In addition to providing aid, ammunition, and defence gear, Australia, one of the major non-NATO donors to the West's support for Ukraine, has prohibited the export of alumina and aluminium ores, including bauxite, to Russia.

Australia has contributed roughly A$500 million ($340 million) in military aid to Ukraine since the conflict started. Along with sanctioning more than 1,000 Russian people and entities, it also sent soldiers to Britain to assist in training Ukrainian troops there.

When President Joe Biden virtually meets with G7 leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, the United States will announce new sanctions against Russia, according to the White House.
