Australia’s international borders to the travelers is still closed as part of its effort to suppress the coronavirus pandemic, and people transporting between the country's different states and regions are subject to a mandatory two-week quarantine. The officials said multiple contingency plans have been devised, but the point to take decision to cancel the championship and open has come regrettably. PGA officials thought of implementing various options to deal with the restrictions including players entering a hub and competing while serving a strict quarantine period, as well as restricting crowd numbers and movement. But ultimately none proved viable and the game has to be cancelled. The assembling of international fields and ensuring the players safety, spectators and officials safety, forced the hand of organizers to cancel.  It is undoubtedly a real blow for the Australian Golf and the fans.

The Australian Open and PGA Championship were originally scheduled for a late November and early December window, at Melbourne's Kingston Heath and Brisbane's Royal Queensland, respectively. Both were postponed in recent months in the hope a time slot in the late southern summer near the Women's Australian Open would give time to host them. The officials said we look forward to bringing all three tournaments alive again when they return as normal for summer 2021-22.
