Auto driver was arrested by NIA in connection with East-Bengaluru riots

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made its  second arrest in relation with the August 11 east Bengaluru riots. The NIA has arrested a 34-year-old auto driver Setu based in the Bengaluru city on Tuesday. The driver allegedly been absconding since the day of the riot and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths of Bengaluru police had also been trying to nab him, the NIA said.

According to NIA, he is one of the prime accused in the case and was arrested when was returning to his DJ Halli residence on Wednesday. The accused Setu is a close associate of Muzzamil Pasha of the SDPI and NIA believes Setu arrest will pave way to arrest the remaining accused. NIA has said a team, headed by an officer of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) rank, will be in charge of the probe. NIA is investigating two cases in connection with the riots after the police had registered cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act [UAPA].Inclusive of political functionaries of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and aides of Congress corporators police has arrested over 300 persons. Former Mayor Sampath Raj is also mentioned in the charge-sheet.

In the riots outside DJ Halli police station and later spread to areas within the neighboring KG Halli police station limits, 3 persons were killed, police station and nearby parking areas were fired, damage to the public property was made severely.
