National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has sent guidelines to all the companies charging a toll on toll plazas of all National Highways. According to the NHAI guidelines, if a soldier of the army or police is crossing the toll plaza in a private vehicle and if the vehicle is not fastened, then they will have to go through the cash lane itself. They will be charged double the toll if they pass the FASTag lane.

The government has made up its mind to implement this rule and it is more important to note that guidelines have been sent by NHAI to the company charging toll under Schedule-G. It says that if army personnel are on duty and in a government vehicle, then tolls will not be charged from them, but these vehicles will have to be fastened. Even before the introduction of the FASTag system, even when army personnel were not on government duty, they used to show their government identity cards and pass through their private vehicles without paying toll amount. In many places, these guidelines have been issued on the complaint of fake identity cards.
