Kolkata: The opposition to the award of West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee in the field of literature has started. In protest, a Bengali writer studying in the field of culture has returned her award. Let us inform that CM Mamta was given this award by Paschimbanga Bangla Academy for her contribution to literature.

The name of the writer who returned the honor is Ratna Rashid Banerjee. He was awarded the 'Annad Shankar Smarak Samman' by Paschimbanga Bangla Academy in 2019, which he returned to the academy on Tuesday. Along with returning the award, he also wrote a letter to the President of the Academy and Education Minister of Bengal, Bratya Basu. He wrote that the Chief Minister was given a new literary award on the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. After this decision, the award he got (Ratna) has become 'Taj of Thorns'.

The writer told the media that I have written a letter to the Academy informing it about the decision to return the award. She said that being a writer, I feel humiliated by the move of giving literary award to Mamata Banerjee. This would set a bad precedent. Ratna Rashid Banerjee said that the Akademi's statement praising the literary discovery of the Chief Minister is a mockery of truth.
