NEW DELHI: According to an assessment report of 18 states released on Tuesday, the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat - Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWC) scheme is on track in most states, with a clear roadmap for attaining targets set for December 2022.

The launch of AB-HWC has enabled translation of the vision of moving from selective to comprehensive primary health care package enunciated in the National Health Policy 2017, according to findings of a third-party assessment of the scheme in 18 states released by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

It also stated that, notwithstanding existing obstacles such as infrastructure availability and the quality of peripheral health institutions, fairness in access has improved.

"Across all four categories examined - treatment, drugs, diagnostics, and cleanliness," the report stated, "client satisfaction with the services given was substantially better among those who received services from HWCs as compared to those who received services from non-HWCs."

Mansukh Mandaviya.praised the report's findings, saying: "Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisioned AB-HWC to bring affordable and accessible healthcare to the final mile. Third-party review is critical in this regard for a proper assessment of the scheme's operation and implementation." He noted that the report will serve as a guiding concept for future planning.
