Rampur: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan has filed a petition for an anticipatory bail in the Allahabad High Court after the Uttar Pradesh police filed 64 cases against him in the last three months. According to sources, Azam Khan's application is likely to be heard in a day or two. Rampur District Officer Anjaneya Kumar Singh informed that all the 64 cases are serious, out of which 28 cases have been registered in the last one month.
Anjaneya Singh said many more people are expected to come forward and complain against Azam Khan. Azam Khan has been accused of forcibly grabbing farmers' land. About 27 farmers have registered cases saying that their land was forcibly occupied by Azam Khan. There have been 13 cases of violation of election rules, threatening officials and making provocative speeches during the elections. In all these 13 cases, chargesheets have been filed on behalf of the police.
According to sources, Azam can be arrested for questioning after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a case against Azam Khan. ED has registered a case against Azam Khan under money laundering. According to sources, Azam Khan is expected to be arrested after the Parliament session ends.
