Lucknow: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and sitting MLA Azam Khan, who came out of jail on bail, took oath as an MLA on Monday but kept a distance from SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. Azam Khan returned to Rampur instead of attending the proceedings of the Assembly. From Azam Khan's son Abdullah Azam to Shivpal Yadav and Om Prakash Rajbhar's party MLAs were present in the proceedings of the assembly but did not join the SP's protest in the House against the Yogi government.

In fact, party MLAs and MLCs led by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav staged a protest demanding cheap electricity to farmers, no false cases against opposition people, and making education and irrigation cheaper. In Akhilesh's presence, SP leaders were seen in excitement, but the support of the allies could not be found by the SP. The RLD MLAs along with the SP were present, but the MLAs of Om Prakash Rajbhar's Bharatiya Suheldev Samaj Party (Subhaspa) did not participate in the protest.

Along with Azam Khan, his son Abdullah Azam Khan was also sworn in as an MLA on Monday. He did not return to Rampur like Azam but sat quietly in the House. He did not join the SP MLAs in sloganeering against the Yogi government.  Azam Khan went back to Rampur after taking the oath, while his seat was next to Akhilesh in the House.
