It was during his posting at Nathula Pass that Baba Harbhajan Singh's remarkable story began. In October 1968, while escorting a mule caravan, he mysteriously disappeared. A search operation was launched, but no trace of him could be found. After several days, his colleagues reported seeing a vision of Baba Harbhajan Singh in their dreams. In these dreams, he appeared and guided them to his body, which was eventually discovered. He had tragically lost his life due to drowning in a stream. The legend of Baba Harbhajan Singh did not end with his death. According to the beliefs of many, his spirit continued to protect the soldiers stationed in the region. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Honorary Captain in the Indian Army. A shrine, known as the Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, was built in his honor near the Nathula Pass. It is believed that his spirit actively patrols the area, ensuring the safety of the soldiers and civilians alike.
