Babar Azam breaks Chris Gayle's record, becomes world's first batsman to achieve this feat

Islamabad: Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam broke the records of Team India's Virat Kohli and West Indies explosive batsman Chris Gayle at Rawalpindi on the night of October 3, 2021. Babar Azam played against Southern Punjab in Pakistan's National T20 tournament and played a not-out inning of 59 runs for Central Punjab. Babar completed his 7000 runs in the T20 format. With this, he has become the batsman to score 7000 runs in the shortest innings in the T20 format.

Babar completed 7000 T20 runs in his 187th innings. The record was held by West Indies' stormy opener Chris Gayle before him. Gayle completed his 7000 T20 runs in the 192nd innings. Babar has become the second batsman in the world to complete 7000 T20 runs in less than 200 innings. India captain Virat Kohli completed his 7000 T20 runs in the 212th innings. Australia captain Aaron Finch is fourth in the list. Finch completed his 7000 T20 runs in the 222nd innings. David Warner, the Australian opener and Indian premier league (IPL), who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2020, completed 7000 T20 runs in the 223rd innings.

Babar, however, is ranked 29th in terms of the highest T20 runs. Gayle is at the top in this regard. Gayle has scored 14276 runs in 448 T20matches at an average of 36.79. This includes 22 centuries and 87 fifties. Babar has so far scored 7055 runs in 196 T20Is at an average of 46.11. This includes 6 centuries and 59 fifties.
