Wrestler Babita Phogat, father Mahavir join BJP, Kiren Rijiju welcomes wrestler duo

NEW DELHI: International wrestler Babita Phogat along with her father Mahavir Phogat joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. Babita has previously campaigned for The Jan Nayak Janata Party (JJP). Mahavir Phogat is the head of the JJP's Sports Cell. Both have resigned from the JJP and joined the BJP.

Babita Phogat and her father Mahavir Phogat have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Union minister Kiren Rijiju. They joined the BJP at an event at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Monday. Ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, the Phogats joining BJP will give the party a further thrust in the state.

Babita and Mahavir Phogat held the BJP's hand in the presence of Union Minister Kiran Rijiju. BJP leaders Anil Jain, Ram Vilas Sharma and Anil Baluni were also present during the visit. After joining the BJP, Babita also met the party's executive chairman Jaypee Nadda. Speaking on the occasion, Babita Phogat said, "I want to thank everybody. I have been Modiji's fan for many years. I am impressed by his actions. He has removed Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, which made me happy. Everyone would like to join the BJP with that."

Asked the reasons for joining the BJP, Mahavir Phogat said, We are impressed with policies and programmes of the Narendra Modi government.
