New Delhi: Minister of State for Environment Babul Supriyo has resigned as minister on Wednesday ahead of the Modi cabinet reshuffle and expansion. Supriyo also confirmed on social media that he was saddened by the ministership, but expressed happiness that other colleagues from West Bengal are being given cabinet berths. He has also expressed satisfaction that he was not tainted with corruption while he was a minister.

Babul Supriyo wrote on Facebook, "I was asked to resign and I did so. I am grateful to the PM for allowing me to serve the country as a member of the Cabinet." Some other ministers also resigned from the post ahead of Wednesday evening's reshuffle and expansion in the Union Cabinet, including union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, chemicals and fertilizers minister DVS Gowda, labour and employment minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar, minister of state for education Sanjay Dhotre, minister of state for women and child development Debshree Chaudhary.

For the first time since coming to power in May 2019, PM Narendra Modi is reshuffled and expanded the cabinet. "I am happy that today I am going without any stain of corruption," Supriyo said. "I served the people of my region with all my might and the people of Asansol expressed confidence in me by voting again as an MP." He conveyed his best wishes to his colleagues who will be made Ministers from Bengal.
