New Delhi: Amid the rapidly increasing cases of corona in China, it is also being feared to spread in India. Meanwhile, a recent study conducted by experts from Patna, Delhi, and Mangalagri in Andhra Pradesh has suggested that the corona affects sperm quality in men. This study was based on semen analysis and sperm count tests. The study was conducted on about 30 men aged between 19 and 43 years undergoing treatment for corona at Patna AIIMS from October 2020 to April 2021.

The first test was done immediately after the corona infection and the second test was done two to three months after the infection, in which the semen of all the patients was collected. In the first sampling, the semen quality of all these patients was found to be very poor, while the result of the second sampling was even worse. The study found that even after 10 weeks, 40 percent of the 30 men had a low sperm count. At the same time, in 10 percent of 40 percent of men, this problem was found even after 10 weeks. In 33 percent of the patients admitted to AIIMS Hospital in Patna, semen volume was found to be less than normal during the first sampling.

The study, published in the Curious Journal of Medical Science, found that in the first semen sampling, 40 percent (12) of the 30 men had a low sperm count. Even after two and a half months, the tests showed that 3 (10 percent) men had low sperm counts. The study found that in the first semen sampling, 10 out of 30 (33 percent) men had semen volumes less than 1.5ml, which should usually be 1.5 to 5ml. The first semen sampling revealed that of the 30 men who participated in the study, 26 had semen thickness, 29 had a sperm count and 22 men had impaired sperm movement. The second test found improvement in the situation, although this parameter improved due to the second semen sampling, but experts say that it is still much lower than normal. Dr. Satish P Dipankar, head of the study, suggested that assisted reproductive technology (ART) clinics and sperm banks should assess the semen of men who have been suffering from covid-19. This research should continue until the quality of semen becomes normal. Dr. Gauri Agarwal, the founder of the Seeds of Innocence IVF Centre, said, "Studies are being conducted all over the world about the decline in men's fertility due to Corona. Also, data of all these studies is also being prepared.'' Dr. Agarwal said that he recommends checking the quality of semen of men before IVF.
