NEW DELHI: India's star badminton player PV Sindhu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju on Tuesday after winning the BWF World Championships in Basel, Switzerland. During her meeting with PM Modi, Sindhu handed over her winning gold medal to the Prime Minister, after which PM Modi himself honoured PV Sindhu by wearing a gold medal.

After winning the gold medal, PV Sindhu arrived in her home country on Tuesday morning where she thanked her fans for their support. Sindhu said she wants to win more medals for the country.“India’s pride, a champion who has brought home a Gold and lots of glory! Happy to have met @Pvsindhu1. Congratulated her and wished her the very best for her future endeavours,” Modi Tweeted.

Earlier, Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju said, Sindhu has made the country proud by winning her first Indian gold medal in the championships. In a tweet, Rijiju said, "Pv Sindhu has made history by winning the World Badminton Championships for India for the first time. He wished the country more respect for him. ''
