In a recent turn, Bajaj Auto, one of India's leading motorcycle makers, started its journey in India with scooters, and later on went on to focus solely on making motorcycles. But with an increasing demand for scooters, especially in urban cities, Bajaj is now set to make its comeback in the scooter segment in India. And that too, with an electric scooter from Bajaj Urbanite, its EV division that was launched earlier this year.

It is to be noted that the Urbanite scooter, which has already been spotted testing its mettle over Indian streets, is likely to be launched by the end of this year or the first quarter of 2020. Talking about the details of this scooter, there is not much that we know about the electric powertrain it will use. But, the Bajaj Urbanite electric scooter is likely to get styling that will be reminiscent of retro scooters, perhaps even borrowing cues from old scooters in Bajaj's lineage. So, we can expect the scooter to be a little curvy in its appearance, with wide front apron, curvy side panels, and tall rear view mirrors. However, to strike a balance between retro and modern, the scooter will most likely get alloy wheels with front and rear disc brakes and LED headlamp and taillight.

However, it is worth mention here that talking about Bajaj Urbanite scooter's features, we do expect it to get integrated braking system for enhanced safety, and even an all-digital widescreen instrument panel with readouts for battery range, odometer and tripmeter. This instrument could also support Bluetooth connectivity for smart phones and even display turn-by-turn navigation. Scooter segment in India has been seeing substantial increase in demand, especially in urban cities.

To meet customers' demands, almost every prominent two-wheeler maker is offering scooters in its stable. Even brands like Suzuki and Yamaha, who usually focus on performance bikes, have scooters on offer. However, one name missing from this league was Bajaj, but with its Urbanite electric scooter, we can expect that void to be filled soon. When launched, the Bajaj Urbanite scooter will face competion from rivals like Ather and Okinawa.
