Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia may not have won the gold medal at the ongoing World Wrestling Championships in Kazakhstan, but he created history as he won the bronze medal on Friday. Bajrang became the first Indian wrestler to win three medals in this prestigious competition, beating the Mongolian wrestler 8-7.

Won the Bronze medal in the men's 65kg freestyle and won his third medal at the World Wrestling Championships. Bajrang had earlier won the Bronze in 2013 and the Silver medal in 2018. Bajrang beat Mongolia's Tulga Tumur Ochir 8-7 in the Bronze medal match on Friday. Ochir is the Asian champion in the Under-23 category. Ochir pressured Bajrang out of the mat at the start of the match. He made a strong grip on Bajrang's hands, which prevented this Indian Wrestler from attacking. Ochir then scored four points to take a 6–0 lead.

Bajrang returned to the match in the second period with a counter-attack in his own style. He first reduced the opponent's lead and then gained a one-point lead to take the fight to 8-7. This is the first tournament of the current season, where Bajrang failed to make it to the finals. He, however, obtained the Olympic quota from the tournament.
