Patna: Nowadays, there is a trend of renaming cities and railway stations in the country. After the Yogi government came to Uttar Pradesh, Allahabad was renamed as Prayagraj, Faizabad district was renamed back to Ayodhya after the old name and Mughalsarai Junction was renamed after Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. Now there is a hue and cry in Bihar over the renaming of Bakhtiyarpur (Bakhtiyarpur).

In fact, there is no demand today to rename Bakhtiapur. BJP MP Gopal Narayan Singh had demanded the renaming of Bakhtiyarpur station in the Upper House two years ago. At the same time, the locals of Bakhtiyarpur have also been demanding to rename it from time to time. He has also written to the CM and PM several times in this regard. He says that naming Bakhtiyarpur station in the name of Bakhtiyar Khilji who burnt Nalanda University (Nalanda University) hurts him. BJP MLA Mithilesh Kumar had also demanded cm, Nitish Kumar, to rename Bakhtiyarpur.

When reporters questioned CM Nitish Kumar about renaming Bakhtiyarpur at Janata Darbar in Patna on Monday, he gave a clear reply saying why he would change Bakhtiyarpur's name. Nitish said, "It is nonsense. Bakhtiyarpur is my place of birth, why change its name. When the All India Law was being enacted in Parliament, a member said that once Nalanda University was destroyed, a camp was set up in Bakhtiyarpur and now a person born here is building Nalanda University.''
