Bali, Indonesia is a land where almost every house has a compound with multiple shrines. It is indeed known as ‘The Island of a Thousand Puras’. Puras are Balinese Hindu temples. Hindus in Indonesia has incorporated native Austronesia spirit along with the practice of Veda from India.

These temples show the multi-ethnicity of Indonesian Hindus. The rules to visit these temples are quite strict and appropriate clothing is pre-advisable. Be it, men or women, the legs, and shoulders need to be covered while visiting the temple. Keeping a Sarong will come handy while traveling around Bali. Here are some temples in Bali, you must visit:

Pura Besakih: The Mother Temple believed to have existed since 2000 years. One of the largest and holiest temples in Bali.

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan: The second most important temple built in the 17th century. This temple is dedicated to the Goddess of water Dewi Danu. 

Pura Tanah Lot: A sea temple dedicated to the sea God Dewa Baruna. A 17th-century temple built over a tiny rock formation.

Pura Luhur Uluwatu: A 10th-century temple Perched on the edge of 70 meters high rock. A part of 6 sea temples revered by Balinese.

Pura Taman Ayun: As the name suggest, ‘Taman Ayun’ means ‘beautiful garden’. A garden temple built in the 17th century. An adorable place surrounded by water.
