Bengali Filmmaker and director Tarun Majumdar died in Kolkata on Monday. According to the reports, Majumdar was 91 years old and was suffering from prolonged illness and heart-related problems. He was admitted to the SSKM hospital on June 14 and was put on a Ventilator on Sunday. The doctor could not revive him and he died at 11:18.

Majumdar made his debut as an independent director in 1965 with the film name Alor Pipasha. Before that, he was a part of a group of filmmakers which includes Dilip Mukhopadhay and Sachin Mukherjee  but the group separated in 1963.

Tarun Majumdar was one of the prominent and famous personality of Bengali Industry. His prominent work includes Kuheli, Smriti Tuku Thak,  Prithviraj,  Balika Badhu, Dadar Kirti, Palatak, and Ganandevta. He was awarded with the prestigious award Padma Shri by the government of India in the year 1990. He has also won five filmfare award in his life for Balika Badhu, Nirmantran,  Sansar Simante, Ganadevta .  Majumdar also got the Life Time Achievement award in the year 2021.

Tarun Majumdar has worked with several notable Bengali actors like Suchita Sen, Chabbi Biswas, Soumitra Chatterjee etc. Various celebrities and prominent personalities have expressed their grief on his death.
