Raipur: The Balodabazar police have arrested three individuals, including the principal conspirator Mohan Banjare, in connection with the recent violent outbreak and arson in the district. The arrests follow a protest demonstration that escalated into violence, leaving the community in turmoil and authorities working to restore order.

On July 15, Dinesh Chaturvedi, the State President of the Bhim Regiment, voluntarily surrendered to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court. The police requested remand until July 20 for thorough interrogation, but after considerable debate and opposition from the defense, the court granted remand until July 18. Advocate Shariq Khan, along with three other lawyers, represented the accused, arguing against the extended remand. Dinesh Chaturvedi and Hemant Banjare both denied involvement in the violence and contended that the police's request for a longer remand was excessive. The court decided on a shorter remand period, aiming for a fair balance in the judicial process.

Mohan Banjare, a government school teacher, has been identified by the police as the main orchestrator of the violence. Investigators allege that Banjare mobilized stage operators and demonstrators from various districts to converge on Balodabazar, intending to escalate the protest. The planned assembly of protesters led to a situation that quickly spiraled out of control.

Prior to these arrests, the police had already detained Gopi Bande, State President of the Bhim Krantiveer Chhatra Sangh, and Sandeep Kosle, Vice President of the same organization. Both are accused of playing pivotal roles in organizing the demonstration, securing permissions, and leading the core organizing committee. The protest, which began on June 10, initially aimed to demonstrate but soon turned violent. Protesters clashed with law enforcement, throwing stones and physically assaulting officers. The situation worsened as demonstrators set fire to hundreds of vehicles parked at a joint office, causing significant damage and instilling fear in the local community.

In response to the violence, the police launched a comprehensive investigation, using video and CCTV footage to identify and arrest those involved. To date, 163 individuals have been apprehended, reflecting the extensive efforts of law enforcement to ensure justice. The arrests and ongoing investigation have elicited mixed reactions from the community. While some residents feel relieved by the swift police action, others remain concerned about potential reprisals and the underlying issues that led to the protest.
