Srinagar: The Ramban district administration of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has taken major action on Tuesday (August 16, 2022) against the news portal spreading fake news. The administration has banned the operation of 7 news portals that tarnish the image of the country by spreading fake news. The district administration has said in its order that maintaining peace and law and order in Ramban is paramount by stopping the operation of illegal news portals spreading fake news and tarnishing the image of the country and the government.

Issuing a letter, he said, 'There is every possibility that even if these fake news portals are not clamped down, then the peaceful atmosphere in the district will continue to be disturbed.' According to reports, the list of portals that have been banned by the Ramban district administration includes Latif Reza, Sangaldan (United Urdu News), Charanjit Bali Ukheral (VD News), Mubashir Nazir Ukheral (News Versus India), Zulfikar Bhat, Sangaldhan (Current News of India 'CNI'), Sajjad Runyal, and Maligam. Action has been taken against Pogal (News Bureau of India NBI), Parvez Bhat (Today News Line) of Rajgarh and an unknown person running GHRT News. All of them are accused of spreading anti-national fake news and maligning the country's image.

Ramban Deputy Commissioner Massartul Islam has informed that this is the first phase of action. In the next phase, news portals that fail to show genuine certificates will also be banned. The Deputy Commissioner of Ramban has directed the SSP to implement the orders issued.
