New Delhi: Gutkha, pan masala, and flavoured tobacco will be banned in the national capital, Delhi. The Delhi High Court has upheld a notification banning the manufacture, storage, distribution, and sale of tobacco, pan masala, gutkha, and similar products in the capital.

Let us tell you that there is already a ban on the use of tobacco in public areas. For this, the Central Government passed the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce Production, Supply, and Distribution) Act (COTPA) in the year 2003. Under this, there is a ban on the use of tobacco in public places like hospitals, institutions, and public offices. There is also a provision for a fine of Rs 200 for violating this.

There are many such institutions in the capital, where earlier tobacco products were banned. It also includes the well-known AIIMS of Delhi and the country. Last year, Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was declared a Tobacco Free Zone'. There is a provision for a fine for those found consuming beedi, gutkha, or cigarettes in AIIMS. This rule is also applicable to doctors, employees, security staff, patients, and their accompanying family members. AIIMS had also issued a notification regarding this. In this, advice was given not to use tobacco or other tobacco products. It said that if any patient or his family members accompanying him were found smoking and consuming other tobacco products in the hospital premises, he would have to pay a fine of Rs 200.
