Bangalore's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) faced an unexpected challenge on May 9 as heavy rain triggered a water leak at Terminal 2 (T2), leading to the diversion of numerous flights. Rainwater seeped through the roof near the baggage claim area of T2, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Prompt action was taken by the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the entity operating KIA, to address the situation. The incident occurred due to an intense downpour over a short period, catching authorities off guard.

According to an airport staff member, "Rainwater started leaking from the roof, creating a puddle near the conveyor belt. The cleaning staff quickly cleared it to minimize disruption for passengers."

In a statement, BIAL acknowledged the issue, attributing it to the unusually heavy rainfall. "A very heavy downpour on the evening of May 9, 2024, resulted in water leakage in certain areas of Bangalore airport terminals," they stated.

The statement further assured passengers that measures were swiftly taken to restore normal operations. "Our teams acted promptly to address the situation and apologize for any inconvenience caused to our passengers," BIAL added.
