Bangalore: Large areas of Bangalore, India's tech hub, were under water on Monday due to torrential rains that uprooted trees, crippled traffic, and required offices to ask staff to work from home, raising concerns about additional disruptions throughout the week.

Using data collected by the government-run India Meteorological Department, it can be said that the Bangalore Urban district on Sunday received 28.1 mm of rain, 368% more than the usual (IMD).

Since the beginning of monsoon season on June 1, the city has experienced 141% more rainfall than usual. Bangalore, home to different multinational firms as well as home-grown startups, has set up itself as an important business centre in the country's southern area.

"Up till Friday, Bangalore and southern interior Karnataka are likely to have severe rain. Beginning on Saturday, there will be less precipitation, "a senior meteorological representative with IMD located in Pune said. It is reported that Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Morgan Stanley had asked their staff to work remotely. Both Walmart's Flipkart and IT giant Wipro Ltd. claimed to have asked staff members to work remotely.

The infrastructure has entirely disintegrated after two years of working from home, said Krishna Kumar, general manager at the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA). The association represents businesses with offices along the Outer Ring Road, a vital thoroughfare in the city. Authorities must concentrate on expanding the infrastructure, he said.

Due to the floods on Monday, residents had to clear out their basements and parking lots, spend additional time stuck in traffic, and in some cases deal with power shortages.

People have a;sp been sharing videos of the water-logged city through social media. Many on social media also asked commuters to avoid waterlogged routes because of heavy water-logging.
