Main mastermind of Bengaluru riots Syed Abbas arrested, post case against Prophet Mohammed

Bangalore: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the main conspirator in the August-August riots case in Bengaluru on Wednesday (June 30, 2021). Four people lost their lives during the riots. An NIA spokesperson said, 38-year-old Syed Abbas, a resident of Govindpur, has been arrested from Bengaluru.

He said Abbas was produced before a special NIA court in Bengaluru from where he was remanded in the custody of the agency for six days. Abbas heads the Nagwara ward of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Bengaluru. Earlier, Congress leader and former mayor Sampath Raj, who was absconding in the Bengaluru violence case, was arrested by the police. Sampath Raj was arrested from Bengaluru. They are accused of inciting violent mobs and inciting riots. Sampath had fled after being admitted to a private hospital during corona treatment in the past. The police had been on the lookout for him since then.

On August 11 last year, thousands of people in Bengaluru torched the houses of Congress MLA R Akhand Srinivasa Murthy and his sister Jayanti for sharing inflammatory posts about Prophet Mohammad on social media through a relative of MLA. The angry mob had fired DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations in suspicion that the relative of the MLA was in custody.
