Dhaka: A 14-year-old madrassa student was held hostage and raped for two days in the Chandeena sub-district of Comilla in Bangladesh. The accused Imam Abul Bashar was arrested on Monday (August 2, 2021). According to the report, 50-year-old Abul Bashar, accused of raping the minor several times, is the Imam of Noyabari Mosque in Archer, Chandeena.
He has been nabbed by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Sadar South Sub-District. According to Major Mohammad Saqib Hussain, commander of the RAB 11 CPC company that arrested him, Imam Bashar imprisoned the girl in his house from July 22 to 23. It was during this time that he repeatedly raped the victim. The repeated rapes worsened her health after which the accused fled leaving the girl's in his house. According to the report, after reaching home, the victim narrated the entire ordeal to her father after which he registered a rape case against Imam Bashar at Chandeena police station.
However, it is worth noting here that the accused Bashar taught Arabic to the girl as a private tutor. At present, based on the complaint, RAB started investigating the matter. Meanwhile, the elite unit of the police arrested Bashar late on Monday night. The accused has confessed to the crime in the initial interrogation. He said that the girl was called to his house and imprisoned where the accused made the student a victim of his lust several times.
