Dhaka: At least seven people have lost their lives and several others were injured in a blast in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka on Sunday. Though the blast also damaged the vehicle and nearby buildings, authorities are yet to ascertain the nature of the blast. Faisalur Rahman, an official of the fire control room, said that the blast took place in a building in the evening in Moghbazar area of Dhaka. Rescuers rushed to the spot after the blast. Rahman said at least seven buildings were damaged in the blast.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafikul Islam told press persons that at least seven people were killed in the incident and those injured have been admitted to the hospital. On the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Dhaka Sajjad Hussain said, 'Of course it is a big bang. A bomb disposal squad of the fire service and the counter-terrorism unit of dhaka metropolitan police has reached the spot. Their experts are working together. They are ascertaining the cause of the blast and the damage caused by it'.
Eyewitnesses said glass pieces and concrete debris were visible on the streets. Two passenger buses parked outside the building where the explosion took place have been badly damaged. Dhaka-based Ekaterin TV station said about 50 people are admitted to the hospital, out of which 10 are in critical condition.
