Bangladesh cricket team arrives in Dhaka post New Zealand mosque shootings

More than 50 people died in the Christchurch shooting in New Zealand. Fortunatly bangladesh team escaped from the shotting as the team was on their way to the Al Noor Mosque on Deans Ave to offer their prayers before the third and final Test match against New Zealand. But their departure got delayed as the press conference finished later than expected.

In the wake of shooting, the third Test match was cancelled by the New Zealand Cricket board after consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and International Cricket Council. Now the Bangladesh cricket team has arrived at Dhaka airport on late Saturday after surviving that horrific attack.

After arrival skipper Mahmudllah Riyad said, “The only thing I can say that we are very lucky. With all of your prayers, now we could return here alive. I cannot describe what is going inside us, what we have seen. All of us in the team could not sleep properly. The only thing that popped up in our mind was how lucky we are.”

At the time incident happened, the team was on its way to reaching Al Noor Mosque mosque which  is located near Hagley Oval where the Test was due to take place and at least 17 members of the Bangladesh cricket team were driving up to the place to join the Friday prayers. But a gunman stormed the midday prayers and shot dozens of worshipers while live-streaming the killings on social media.
