NEW DELHI: Bangladesh cricket team's first captain and legendary cricketer Shamim Kabir has passed away. Shamim Kabir, who captained the Bangladesh cricket team in the first international match, breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka city on Monday morning. Shamim Kabir led the Bangladesh team as captain in January 1977 against the MCC.
Shamim Kabir, 75, was suffering from old age difficulties before his death. Shamim Kabir breathed his last at the Eden Clinic in Dhanmandi in the city. After the death of the former captain of the team, the Bangladesh cricketers are in a gloomy mood. Shamim Kabir left international cricket in 1977. Shamim Kabir did his first-class debut for East Pakistan against Karachi Green on November 1961.
Shamim Kabir had scored 411 runs in 15 first-class matches with an average of 17.86. His highest run was 89 runs which he had scored against the East Pakistan Railway. Shamim Kabir, who was batting in the middle order, occasionally did wicketkeeping. After Shamim Kabir, the Bangladesh cricket team was commanded by Rakibul Hasan.
After saying goodbye to international cricket, Shamim Kabir joined the Cricket Administration and made great strides in Bangladesh cricket. It is because of Shamim Kabir that Bangladesh is playing in every format of cricket today and has become a great team.
