Dhaka: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has admitted that Rohingya Muslims, who fled Myanmar to India and Bangladesh, have damaged the country's social fabric and economy in a big way. On Friday (September 23, 2022) over the same issue, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina urged the United Nations to play an 'effective role'.

The Bangladeshi PM further said that the prolonged presence of Rohingyas in Bangladesh has had a serious impact on the economy, environment, security and socio-political stability. There is widespread despair in the country due to the Rohingyas. Due to Rohingyas, cases of organized crimes including drug and human trafficking from across the border are increasing. He also said that if this situation of Rohingya Muslims continues, it can lead to radicalisation in the country. If the Rohingya problem is not resolved, this could affect the security and stability of the region and beyond.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recalled the exodus of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar that began in 2017 and said that despite being associated with Naypyidaw (Myanmar's capital) and the United Nations (UN), not a single Rohingya Muslim has been sent back to their ancestral home in Myanmar so far. She said the ongoing political turmoil and arms conflict in the country has made the return of Rohingyas home even more difficult. She expressed hope that the UN will play an effective role in this regard.

He has also said 'We need to prove that the United Nations is the foundation of the multilateral system in times of crisis. Therefore, in order to gain the trust and confidence of the people at all levels, the UN must take the lead and meet the expectations of all. Bangladesh believes that hostilities such as war, economic sanctions or retaliatory sanctions have never benefited any country. The best way to resolve crises and disputes is through dialogue.'

Let us tell you that the problem of Rohingya Muslims is also very big in India, the names of Rohingyas appear in many crimes. But, many political parties in India are favouring Rohingyas for the benefit of their vote bank, which is posing a threat to the country. The Government of India also needs to be as clear as the Bangladeshi PM in this matter, after all, why should the Rohingyas be given the rights of Indians?
