Bangladeshi national arrested for clicking pictures of sanctum sanctorum of Shree Jagannath Temple

Bhubaneswar: A Bangladeshi man has been arrested for allegedly clicking pictures of the sanctum sanctorum of the world-famous Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha and uploading them on social media, police said on Sunday. The arrest of the 23-year-old YouTuber was confirmed by a police officer on Tuesday (November 29). Actually, the use of cameras inside the temple is prohibited. The officer informed that the offense was not cognizable, so a local court later granted him bail.

According to the report, some pictures were posted on Facebook by the accused Akash Chaudhary a week ago. The pictures went viral on social media shortly after. After this incident, questions were raised about the security of this 12th-century temple. The temple administration lodged a case against Akash Chaudhary, a resident of the Sylhet area of Bangladesh, at Singhdwar police station, the official said. Akash Chaudhary, who had left for Vrindavan, was called back by the police, after which he returned to Puri on Monday. Chaudhary was booked under various sections of the Shree Jagannath Temple Act, 1954, and the IT Act for allegedly clicking pictures of the sanctum sanctorum in violation of rules, and posting them on Facebook. His phone and passport were also seized by the police. However, Chaudhary later got bail from a local court.

But, after this incident, questions are also being raised regarding this lapse in security arrangements on the temple premises. A servitor said there should be an inquiry into how a foreigner clicked pictures despite a ban on the use of gadgets inside the temple. He said that these pictures also went viral on social media, which is definitely a matter of concern. Extra care has to be taken to ensure that such a mistake does not repeat.
