Olympic bronze medalist shuttler Saina Nehwal made it to the pre-quarterfinals of the women's singles of the Barcelona Spain Masters Badminton Tournament on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 for $ 170,000. Saina defeated Yvonne Lee of Germany 21-16 21-14 in the first round. He won the match in just 35 minutes. In the men's singles, Kidambi Srikanth and Ajay Jayaram also reached the pre-quarterfinals with easy wins. Jayaram defeated France's Kristo Popov 21-14 21-12 in 30 minutes while third seed Srikanth defeated compatriot Mascot De 23-21 21-18. Srikanth and Jayaram will now be face to face in the pre quarter-finals.

For your information, Sameer Verma end the day with a win for India. Verma defeated Lucas Claerbout of France 21-12 21-9. Sameer defeated his rival in just 37 minutes and entered the second round. Pranav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy also won the first round match in mixed doubles. He defeated Matthias Kristiansen of Denmark and Aleksandra Boe 10–21, 21–16, 21–17. HS Prannoy, however, lost to Malaysia's Daren Liu 18-21, 15-21 in the first round of the men's singles.

According to reports, P Kashyap also withdrew from the third game against Ygor Kolho of Brazil. In the first two games, both the players had won one by one. When Kashyap decided to pull out in the third game, he was trailing 12-14.
