BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is making the necessary preparations for a massive vaccination drive aimed at approximately 5 lakh children aged 15 to 18. The drive is set to start on January 3rd.

The authorities have been instructed to collect data on students attending private and government schools and institutions in the city on a zonal basis. They've also been told to have enough staff to delegate to schools and colleges in order to ensure that school and college pupils are vaccinated.

The BBMP intends to cover children who are deprived of an education. NGOs have been urged to assist in the identification of such youngsters in this age range living in slums and industrial regions.

In addition, beginning January 10, the BBMP will begin administering booster dosages to frontline employees and health care personnel. Booster doses will also be given to elderly persons over the age of 60.

To contain the infection, BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta has urged the authorities to place a greater emphasis on contact tracing. Healthcare professionals have been tasked with visiting infection-prone locations and ensuring that preventive measures are in place. Every day, 45,000 tests are conducted in Bengaluru, and the authorities are considering increasing the amount.
