BCCI appoints Ramesh Powar as head coach of Indian women's team till World T20

BCCI (The Board of Control for Cricket in India) appointed Ramesh Powar as Head Coach of Indian Women’s Team. Powar has now been handed over full-time duties till 30th Nov '18. His term will include tour to Sri Lanka in Sept, for a bilateral series in West Indies in Oct, followed by ICC Women’s World T20 in West Indies in November 2018.

Ramesh Powar is a Former Indian off-spinner .The 40-year-old Powar was brought in as the interim coach of the team last month after the resignation of Tushar Arothe. Under the supervision of Powar, the members of the women’s team underwent a camp at National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Powar is a handy batsman and played 2 Tests, 31 ODIs for the Indian team.BCCI also invited applications for the post of head coach of the team at the same time. Powar was also one of the applicants andat last, he was handed the job. A report in The Hindu had told that BCCI had shortlisted a total of six candidates for the post, with Powar also being the one. However, the board took a decision to give an extension to him after the role of Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) wasn’t clear in the appointment process. On a related note Rajkumar Sharma, childhood coach of Indian captain Virat Kohli, was also one of the candidates shortlisted for the job.
