New Delhi: A new controversy has surfaced ahead of the proposed visit of PM Narendra Modi to Kedarnath on November 5. BJP leaders faced a lot of opposition here on Monday and priests showed them black flags. In fact, former Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat and state BJP unit president Madan Kaushik had arrived in Kedarnath to witness the pre-PM Modi visit, but he was subjected to the wrath of priests. Even the former CM could not reach the temple and had to return without the darshan of Baba Bholenath.

In fact, when former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat reached Kedarnath, a protest started between reaching the temple from the helipad and the priests of the shrine showing him black flags. Slogans were also raised against them. He had to return in view of the atmosphere. Earlier, cabinet ministers Dhan Singh Rawat and Madan Kaushik had also reached Kedarnath by helicopter but he too faced opposition from priests in the temple premises. However, the two leaders somehow reached the temple and visited Lord Kedarnath.

Two years ago, when Trivendra Singh was the Chief Minister, an Act was passed to provide for the constitution of Chardham Devasthanam Management Board for maintenance and management of 51 temples in the state including Chardham. The priests of the four religions say that their traditional rights are being violated due to this board and that is why these priests were opposing Trivendra Rawat.
