BEIJING: During the week-long Spring Festival break, major parks in Beijing saw a surge in visitors, as many locals stayed put to help stop the spread of Covid-19.
According to the Beijing Municipal Administration Centre of Parks, over 1.71 million people visited 11 municipal parks during the holiday from January 31 to February 6, rising 5.73 percent from the same period last year.
The most popular locations during the holiday were Taoranting Park, Tiantan (Temple of Heaven) Park, and the Summer Palace, which had 258,300, 214,900, and 208,800 visitors, respectively, according to the state media report.
During the holiday season, ice rinks and snow arenas in several of the parks attracted 158,700 people.
The Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese Lunar New Year, is a traditional event that takes place on February 1 this year.
