Beijing:  Beijing expressed its displeasure on Saturday at the most recent US sanctions imposed on a different group of Chinese companies for allegedly attempting to circumvent Russian export controls.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the action "has no basis in international law and is not authorised by the United Nations Security Council," and it is also illegal and endangers global supply chains.

The US Department of Commerce earlier this week added five businesses with headquarters in Hong Kong and on the mainland of China to its "entity list," prohibiting them from doing business with any US corporations without first obtaining a special licence.

Allparts Trading, Avtex Semiconductor, ETC Electronics, Maxtronic International, and STK Electronics are sanctioned for allegedly being at "risk of being or becoming involved in activities contrary to the national security or foreign policy interests of the United States." These companies are registered in Hong Kong.

As part of a larger effort to prevent foreign companies from engaging in Russia-related economic activities, the White House has so far added a total of 28 entities from around the globe to the list, forcing them to choose between trading with Moscow or with Washington.

"It is a typical unilateral sanction and a type of 'long-arm jurisdiction' that severely jeopardises the legitimate rights and interests of businesses and has an impact on the stability and security of the global supply chain. China vehemently opposes this, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce in China.

"The US should right its wrongdoing right away and cease its irrational suppression of Chinese companies. China will steadfastly protect Chinese companies' legal rights and interests.
