Belagavi: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has stated that victims of the 2019-20 Belagavi floods, whose data was not initially uploaded, will be compensated for their losses.

This was stated by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in his response to the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. The state government has identified up to 7600 such houses.

"During the 2019-20 floods, the state government initiated measures to provide compensation for houses damaged, but details of which were not uploaded in the compensation software application. Owners of 7600 such houses would also be compensated "According to a press release from the Chief Minister's Office.

During the debate, Bommai stated, "During the 2019 floods, Belagavi suffered greatly. The deadline for uploading information about houses that were destroyed or damaged was extended three times. The application did not include information about the damage to over 7700 houses. However, after careful consideration of the facts on the ground, compensation has been made available to 7600 eligible families." He also stated that no such hiccup was reported in 2020-21.

"For the fiscal year 2021-22, Deputy Commissioners have been vested with the authority to grant compensation based on Tahsildar reports," Bommai explained. The Chief Minister also informed the House that, of the 36,698 houses that were completely destroyed by the floods, 18,589 have been completed, and another 7,000 are nearly finished.
