West Bengal Governor, Dr. CV Ananda Bose, has granted permission for the prosecution of Partha Chatterjee, a former state minister, due to irregularities in the recruitment process for school jobs. This action was taken after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought the Governor's approval as part of the inquiry process.
The CBI has named 12 individuals, including Subiresh Bhattacharya, the former chairman of the West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBSSC), in the charge sheet. Additionally, an ex-advisor, a former assistant secretary of the WBSSC, two former program officers, and six others were mentioned in the charge sheet submitted to the special judge in Alipore.
The investigation revealed that the accused, including both public servants and private individuals, conspired with each other to grant undeserved appointments to unqualified candidates for the positions of assistant teachers in secondary and higher secondary schools in West Bengal. These appointments took place in 2016, beyond the expiration of the relevant year's panel. As a result, Partha Chatterjee and his associate, Arpita Mukherjee, were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in July of last year in connection with the recruitment scam involving government and government-aided schools in the state.
Furthermore, several administrative officials, MLAs, former officials of the Primary Education Board and Board of Secondary Education, as well as some Trinamool Congress leaders, have also been apprehended due to their alleged involvement in the scam.
