CM Mamata Banerjee had said a day earlier that restrictions imposed at night would be relaxed. She said, "We have decided to give some relaxation - such as the period of full lockdown at night, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., which has now been extended from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.'' Banerjee said the state is not getting the dose as per the requirement of the vaccine. She said, "If we had received vaccines, we would have been able to give at least one dose to the rural population, and then we could have returned the local trains.''
On the other hand, metro rail in West Bengal has decided to extend its north-south corridor in the city by one hour during service from Monday evening. The last train will now leave the terminal stations at 9 pm. An official said Kolkata metro officials have increased the daily number of trains from 220 to 228 in view of the increase in the number of passengers and will get the train every five minutes during peak hours. A Metro spokesperson said on Friday, "From Monday, the last metro terminal on the north-south corridor will leave the stations at 9 pm instead of 8 pm as the state government has relaxed the ban period.''
