Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has opposed the Centre's move to introduce the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020 in Parliament. Now she has also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this. She has written this letter urging him to refrain from implementing it. Amidst all this, the leader of opposition in the Assembly and senior Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has taken a dig. In a tweet, he said, "CM shedding crocodiles tear. Electricity is the most expensive in Kolkata.''

CM should specify which provisions she is objecting to in response to the letter sent by the Union Government on February 05, 2021.

Also she should explain the reasons for this arbitrary objection raised by her that doesn't seem to be in public interest, primarily. pic.twitter.com/CCjC5UpVYc

Let me tell all of you that last Saturday, Mamata Banerjee had written to PM saying, "I am writing this letter to re-register my protest against the central government's new move to introduce the much-awaited Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020 in Parliament. It was proposed to be transferred last year, but many of us underlined the anti-people aspects of the draft law. I had told you in a letter on 12th June 2020, in detail about all the major disadvantages of the Bill. I am shocked to hear that the Bill is in stark contrast to our reservation rules. In fact, this time some serious anti-people points have been added to the Bill.''
In a tweet today, Sunday, Suvendu Adhikari wrote, "Shedding crocodile tears by objecting to the West Bengal CM on the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020. In fact, private companies in Kolkata charge the highest fee to protect their monopoly. They are working under personal interest. The new Act will help in the public interest by competing, resulting in a reduction in fees.'' In response to a letter sent by the Central Government on 5th February 2021, the CM should explain what provisions it is objecting to. At the same time, they should also explain the reasons for this arbitrary objection raised by them which does not appear to be mainly in the public interest.
