Kolkata: Junior doctors who have been on strike for six days in West Bengal agreed to talk to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Though the doctors had earlier put a condition for holding a meeting in the presence of the media, it was later withdrawn. On Monday, Mamata and the striking doctors will meet at 3 PM at the state secretariat. 2-2 representatives of 14 medical colleges will attend.

According to the information, there may be videography of the meeting. Thousands of patients are facing hardship in the state due to the strike. The two-and-a-half hour meeting of the Joint Forum of Junior Doctors, an organisation of striking doctors, agreed to hold talks. A spokesman for the forum said, "We want to break the deadlock. We are ready to meet at the place of choice of the Chief Minister.

At the same time, the place should be such that the representatives of all the medical colleges in the State can be present. Once the demands are fulfilled, we will return to work as soon as possible. He, however, made it clear that the strike will continue till the problems are resolved. The state's junior doctors have been on strike since Tuesday to protest the killing of two juniors following the death of a patient at NRS Medical College. The impact has reached other States of the country.
