Kolkata: CBI, which is investigating cases of violence, rape and attemptto rape after assembly elections in West Bengal, has categorically rejected a media report. CBI said that on 3rd and 4th January, 2022, some news agencies reported that there was no evidence in 21 cases of rape sent by the National Human Rights Commission (NCW). CBI said, "This is totally wrong and misleading news. The news was strongly reported by the media. The same news was published by big places like The Times of India. Kolkata High Court ASG Waije Dastur had also written to the TOI reprimanding him for running the false news.

In a letter to the TOI, ASG wrote, "The case of violence after the Bengal elections on January 3, 2022 was heard in the Calcutta High Court, in which the TOI published a report the next day. Unfortunately, there is no truth in what the report quoted CBI as saying. In the hearing that day, CBI did not say anything as TOI wrote in his news. The titles, facts and statistics of this report are all completely wrong. '

On the other hand, on these false reports, CBI has said that the source of the media report is based on the inputs received from the report submitted by the investigating agency in the Kolkata High Court on December 22, 2021. The Kolkata High Court had on August 19, 2021 ordered an inquiry into the incidents of murder, rape and attempt to rape on CBI. All these cases are under investigation. As on 22nd December, 2021, 29 complaints relating to sexual offences have been sent by the National Human Rights Commission to the CBI. As per the Kolkata High Court order, it has been decided to hand over two of these cases to the State SIT.
