Kolkata: The famous Visva Bharati University in West Bengal is having a dharna-demonstration time these days. Three protests were together on Saturday. A protest was led by Prof. Vidyut Chakraborty, vice chancellor of the university. While the second protest was organised on behalf of the left student organization SFI, the third protest was organised by the neighbouring businessmen against the university.
Prof. Vidyut Chakraborty, vice chancellor of the university, was against the West Bengal government. VC Professor Vidyut Chakraborty is seeking back the road connecting two university camps with Mamata Banerjee from the state government. The road was controlled by the first university management, which was taken over by the state Government on January 1.
The vice chancellor sat on a protest near Chattimatala for several hours on Saturday. He was accompanied by a number of professors, students and non-academic staff. They demand that the road connecting the two university camps be controlled back to the university administration. The 2.9 km road connects Visva Bharati's Shantiniketan camp with Srinicatan. Some nearby persons had complained to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that the university administration was preventing local people from using this road, then, from 1st January, the West Bengal government took control of the road. The university administration is now opposing the decision.
