Shillong: A statement by Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy has caused an uproar in West Bengal. Roy has said that Bengal used to be great at some point of time but now its greatness has gone. He said that now Bengali boys are clearing the floors and Bengali girls do the job of bar dancers. Governor Tathagata Roy had been angry at the protest over the Hindi language being taught in some states, and he made a series of tweets on the same.
Tathagata Roy is a resident of West Bengal and has been in the BJP for quite some time. He had a series of tweets about it from his Twitter handle. He has described the opposition to learning Hindi by Bengalis as a lack of knowledge and politically motivated. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has protested on the governor's statement. MP Kakoli Ghosh led a Dharna in Hazra area.
Tathagata Roy tweeted saying that there is no huge opposition, the only political reason behind his shouting. He said, "the states of Assam, Maharashtra, and Odisha are also non-Hindi speaking regions, but they are not opposing the Hindi?
