Bengaluru police on Friday opened fire to arrest the perpetrators of the murder of former BJP councillor Rekha Qadiresh. Cottonpet police said the criminals had attacked a sub-inspector and a police constable at the time of his arrest which led to the police firing on him.

In fact, Rekha Kadiresh, a former BJP councillor of the greater Bengaluru Municipal Corporation in Karnataka, was stabbed to death in front of her house in Cottonpet on Thursday. Police said the injured former councillor was taken to Kempe Gowda Institute of Medical Sciences after the incident but could not be rescued. The arrested criminal's Peter and Surya have been admitted to the hospital for treatment and further investigation is on.

The same police said Rekha was stabbed at least 17 times while returning to her office after distributing food to the needy around 10.30 am on Thursday. Rekha, a two-time BJP councillor and resident of Chalvadipalya ward in the city, was the second wife of rowdy Kadiresh, who was murdered in February 2018. The Qadresh attackers later surrendered before a court here. Police sources said CCTV cameras installed in front of the former councilor's house were turned in the other direction so that no incident could be captured on camera.
