Indian Railways wheels and axles premier manufacturer in Yelahanka, Bengaluru, Rail Wheel Factory has bagged its first significant export order. The African nation Mozambique has ordered 1485 wheels and axles whose first batch has already been dispatched. RWF marked its historic four millionth wheel roll out from the premises on October 21, is involved in manufacturing since 1984.

RWF General Manager Rajiv Kumar Vyas said "We have just sent the first consignment of 90 wheels and 45 axles for our first big international order to Diesel Locomotive Works in Varanasi, which is readying locos for Mozambique. Our order is worth Rs 8.13 crore and is for 1485 products -- 990 wheels and 495 axles", and is happy as the export scene is looking bright for the factory. He was confident that the complete order will be dispatched by this November. The factory is involved in talks with Sri Lanka but no positive response yet. Mozambique ordered six locomotives that are being built at two different factories, DLW in Varanasi and the Modern Coach Factory manufacturing 76 coaches and 30 Electric Multiple Units.

Though RWF was involved in export early, this is the first bulk order. RWF has applied for AARM 1003 certification of quality, upon its approval the factory can export to North American countries. Currently, RWF holds AARQA 5000 quality certification that enables exports to non- North American countries.
