Olympics 2024: Simone Biles' journey to winning gold at the women's artistic gymnastics all-around final on August 1st was marked by a special tribute from Beyoncé.
The renowned singer, aged 42, narrated a video for NBC that showcased Biles' path to the 2024 Olympic Games. This heartfelt narration was a highlight, as Beyoncé's voice added depth to Biles' inspiring story.
The video opens with Beyoncé singing the first verse of her track "JUST FOR FUN" featuring Willie Jones. It includes footage from the Tokyo Olympics, where Biles had to withdraw due to the "twisties," a disorienting condition affecting gymnasts.
"And, of course, lasting power. Only a select few know what it feels like to get to the top and stay there and somehow keep getting better," Beyoncé says as clips of Biles training are shown.
Beyoncé continues, "Simone Biles inspires me, and I'm pretty sure she inspires you, too. Such confidence in her strength, such beauty in her power, such a great lesson in her story. Brilliance, it doesn't come easy. Gold can be a hell of a journey, and the greatest of all time is willing to put that title on the line every time she walks out there. Take your best shot, world. She's ready for you."
Although Beyoncé did not attend the Olympics, she introduced Team USA in a two-and-a-half-minute clip during NBCUniversal’s primetime coverage of the opening ceremony.
